The SALDF is a student chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund. SALDF is devoted to enhancing the welfare and legal status of all nonhuman animals. Our primary goals are to educate ourselves and others concerning the issues and laws that affect animals and to influence positive change. Be a CANES Angel for Animals!
The SALDF will be collecting donations for The Humane Society of Greater Miami and Miami-Dade Animal Services as part of the Canes Angels program. We are collecting: pet food (wet or dry), treats, washable toys, grooming supplies, cat litter, collars, leashes, food bowls, pet carriers, old towels or blankets, bandanas, and shoe boxes. There will be a drop box in the law library lobby from Monday, November 19th to Monday, December 10th. Please make a donation for this worthy cause.

Walk for the Animals this February
The University of Miami community will be walking as a "pack" on Saturday, February 23rd at the Humane Society Walk for the Animals. The walk is being held at Bayfront Park. If you are interested in walking, please email umsaldf@yahoo.com. More information on how to make a donation will be updated as the event approaches. Volunteer Opportunities

SALDF sponsors monthly volunteer opportunities at the Humane Society of Greater Miami, Soffer and Fine Adoption Center. Volunteer days for Spring 2008 will be updated as scheduled. Animal Law Conference and Moot Court

SALDF executive board officers and members recently attended the 15th Annual Animal Law Conference hosted by Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, OR. Topics covered at the conference included Advancing Criminal Prosecutions, Factory Farms, and Fighting Breed Specific Legislation: Addressing the Real Issues Behind "Dangerous Dogs." SALDF VP of Events Jane Graham and Member Kevin Obletz will be participating in the 2008 Animal Law Moot Court Competition at Harvard Law School.
