Confidentiality Contract
I, Law School Student Mentor, in understanding the importance of confidentiality in any counseling situation, agree to keep confidential any identities or matters related to me by any student in my capacity as a law school peer counselor. I will not reveal any of this confidential information to professors, administrators, fellow students, friends or family at any time, subject to the two exceptions stated below:
- I understand that I may breach confidentiality in the event that I have reason to believe by clear and convincing eveidence that the student is going to harm himself/herself and/or
- I understand that I may breach confidentiality in the event that I have reason to believe by clear and convincing evidence that the student is going to hurt another.
I understand that if I abridge this duty in any way, then a complaint may be filed directly with the Dean’s Office or the Honor Council. I also understand that in the event I breach confidentiality, the wronged student shall have the right to file a claim against me for civil damages. If I am found to have violated my pledge of confidentiality, I understand that I will be dismissed from my position as a Law School Student Mentor. In addition, I understand that the Honor Council or the Dean’s Office may take such action as they deem appropriate for discipline and/or correction of the breach.
