Symptoms of Depression

Symptoms you may recognize as depression. You may also be depressed and not realize it if you experience these symptoms:

  • You don't feel pleasure in anything; you don't enjoy doing the things you used to do.
  • You are irritable most of the time.
  • You don't have the energy to complete tasks, do your schoolwork, dress well, or get involved in any activities.
  • You have trouble sleeping and wake up un-rested OR you are sleeping much more than usual.
  • You have difficulty concentrating and your mind often wanders.
  • You don't feel like getting out of bed to face the day.
  • You feel an underlying anxiety.
  • You frequently cry or have crying spells for no real reason.
  • You don't feel good about yourself and often don't even like yourself.
  • You feel isolated or apart from others, both physically and emotionally.
  • You are very lonely.
  • You feel unloved and unwanted by your friends and even your family.
  • You have no appetite and get no enjoyment from eating OR you are eating more often that usual.
  • You have a variety of physical complaints like stomach aches, headaches, backaches, constipation.
  • You have difficulty making decisions; you worry about the consequences of even routine decisions.

If any of these symptoms persist for two weeks or more, seek a professional opinion from a mental health professional.
